Find Your Own Inner Elder

Michelle Thrush

January 24, 2020

This imaginative show talks about the importance of reconnecting with our Elders and how impactful the stories are that our Grandparents carry. FYOIE talks about the passing of information between the generations and the strength of language. This touching show portrays the connection between 4 generations in one family. This eventually leads to the creation of an Inner Elder… named Kookum Martha! That is when the laughter begins.

Mary Irwin Theatre at Rotary Centre for the Arts

Admission
Individual: $30
Students and Seniors: $20

Created and performed by Michelle Thrush

Michelle Thrush is a Cree actor and activist. She is best known for her leading role as Gail Stoney in Blackstone, for which she won the Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role in 2011,  and her recurring roles as Sylvia LeBret in North of 60 and Deanna Martin in Arctic Air.

Riotous laughter throughout the show and especially during Kookam’s stand-up act, was mirrored by pin-drop silence during the most piercing moments of the storytelling. The show is obviously a crowd-pleaser that doesn’t let the audience off the hook in terms of confronting the truth of the ongoing injustice faced by Indigenous communities.”

  – Keira Grant, Mooney on Theatre (Native Earth/Nightwood Theatre) on the larger staged version of ‘Inner Elder’.
